  1. Gentlemen,

I have just received my Oswego County pistol permit.

I’m a retired Physician and will be in residence at Greene Point on Sandy Pond this coming summer; I would like to find a place to practice and compete. I have been shooting IDPA, as well as club directed Steel Challenge and bowling pins in addition to plinking. I’m looking forward to getting some range time in NY this summer.

I am also an NRA certified RSO, and Basic Pistol Instructor. I plan to complete the instructors course for Personal Protection In the Home and for PPOH as well this month.

I’d like to get the membership process started to avoid loss of time in late May. What is the best way to proceed?

  2. It seems unclear what is covered under the ‘Active Military’ membership. The regular membership includes spouse and children, does the Active Military rate also include a spouse and children? If not does my wife also receive the Active Military rate?

    • Christopher thank you for the comment. All regular, senior and active military memberships include spouse and children. The membership year runs 1 October through 30 September. Let me know if additional information is required.

  3. Hi: I am a recreational shooter with no interest in competition. I’d just like to shoot a round or two of trap on weekends and use the ranges once in a while. I stooped by yesterday (May 3) around 2 pm and found the fields empty. Is someone usually available on Sunday afternoons? (The website states that trap practice is every Sunday from noon on.) Can I shoot trap by myself? Can I shoot trap on a Saturday? It’s a really nice facility. I’m going to send in my membership form and try to contact someone in person who I can discuss the field availability with. Thanks!

    • John, thank you for your interest in the facility. The Trap fields are open the 2nd through the 4th/5th Sunday from Noon until 4PM, and on Wednesday evenings from 5PM until 9. The cost is $4 for 25 birds, and you provide your own weapon and shells. We normally run two fields, with voice release systems and installed new PAT traps in 2014 on field 1 & 2. We also run Skeet field on the Sundays we shoot trap. The first Sunday of each month, we shoot Sporting Clays beginning at 9:00 AM. Look forward to seeing you next Sunday or this coming Wednesday. You can purchase your membership at the club then, or at Gander Mountains fire arms counter any time during the week.

  4. Hi. My husband and I have just purchased shotguns and we are looking for a place to shoot them and learn more about clay and skeet shooting. Is the club suitable for beginners? I am retired military and he is prior military so we are familiar with weapons just not recreational.
    Thanks

    • Thank you both for your service. The club is very beginner friendly. We are about to complete our Winter Trap Shooting League and will be hosting the Sackets Harbor Central School’s Patriot Trapshooter Club for the spring NY Clay Target Trap League, In April we start our summer NTTL (Northern Tier Trap League) competition and Wednesday evening and Sunday open trap practice for members and non members as well, A perfect opportunity to observe and be observed with a experienced shooter or coach would be either a Sunday afternoon or Wednesday evening practice. Would love to work with you both

    • Nancy,

I would be glad to help you with handgun practice. I am a member of the Sackets Harbor Sportsman’s and conduct range training as well as classroom training for handguns. If you don’t mind another Senior Citizen helping you I am available most days and afternoons. We have plenty of ranges so we can practice without interruption. I provide this to all members without charge and usually have one or two sessions a week with new gun owners (new permit holders). Please let me know what days and times are good for you. If you want you can call me direct at 782-3536. I prefer Thursdays if possible as the club is very quiet on that day.

Hope I may be of service.
